OLEAN -- I have lived in big cities, and I have lived in the countryside. Generally, especially in my advanced years, I prefer the latter. Much less asinine human behavior to put up with. But I have noticed one thing. Out "in the country"--where I now reside--one seems much closer to death. By that I don't mean one's own death. I mean the death of living things in general.
